Meeting with stakeholders - SMARTLOGI

A meeting was held in Bolzano between the managers of Eurac Research for the SMARTLOGI project and the main stakeholders involved in activating pilot actions aimed at strengthening cross-border multimodal freight transport. The purpose was to present to the interested parties the main results of the feasibility study developed to improve multimodal transport along the Brenner corridor.

The feasibility studies prepared by the project partners and the experimentation of joint pilot actions form the basis of the strategy to enhance cross-border multimodal transport. This strategy will be adopted operationally by the project partners and institutionally by the two EGTCs of the Program Area, aiming to create a long-term institutional cross-border cooperation framework for sustainable freight transport.

The Bolzano meeting was attended by representatives of the Railway and Air Transport Office of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, the Bolzano Chamber of Commerce, the Interessengemeinschaft Verladebahnhof Südtirol (a stakeholder group of transport companies and firms supporting a new intermodal hub in the province), as well as representatives of Confartigianato imprese (IVH.APA) and the Rail Traction Company. The event presented the main findings from the analysis of transport demand in South Tyrol, conducted among companies in favor of a potential new intermodal hub in the province, in order to identify traffic volumes potentially transferable to rail and to evaluate the feasibility of introducing a new terminal in South Tyrol, following the theoretical model of a “small-scale corridor terminal.”
