4th Coordination Meeting of the SMARTLOGI Project – Sustainable and Intelligent Cross-Border Logistics
On 1 July, the EGTC Euregio Senza Confini hosted the 4th coordination meeting of the SMARTLOGI – Sustainable and Intelligent Cross-Border Logistics project at its office in Trieste. The project is funded by the Interreg VA Italy-Austria 2014-2020 cooperation programme.
The EGTC Euregio Senza Confini, project partner, opened the meeting with a welcome from the new director, Dr. Sandra Sodini, before handing over to the Lead Partner, the Port of Trieste, which emphasized the importance of the participation of Confetra FVG (Italian General Confederation of Transport and Logistics).
During the meeting, project partners reviewed the progress of ongoing activities and discussed upcoming tasks. In particular, the status of the feasibility studies, scheduled for completion by October, and the pilot actions, expected by December 2019, were addressed. The results will contribute to developing a strategy to enhance cross-border multimodal transport, to be adopted operationally by the project partners and institutionally by the two EGTCs of the program area.
Specifically, the Port of Trieste presented the progress of a pilot action developed jointly with the project partner Logistic Center Austria Süd, focused on strengthening modal transfer between the two main logistics nodes of the program area (Port of Trieste and Interporto Fürnitz) through the interoperability of their respective IT platforms. This action also contributes to the creation of a logistics corridor between Trieste and Fürnitz and serves as a preparatory step for implementing a cross-border customs corridor.
Representatives of the EGTC Euregio Senza Confini highlighted that SMARTLOGI was presented within the FIT4CO project, co-financed by the Interreg Italy-Austria Programme, where the EGTC Euregio Senza Confini cooperates with the EGTC Euregio Tirol-Alto Adige-Trentino. The final event of FIT4CO is scheduled to take place in Trieste between March and April 2020.
SMARTLOGI was also presented by the Port of Trieste during a DocksTheFuture Horizon2020 conference in April and at a training event in May within the STEP-UP Italy-Croatia project. Project partners EURAC Research and Logistic Center Austria Süd presented SMARTLOGI at the NETCAR network event in Rome and at the Transport and Logistics Fair in Munich, respectively.
Finally, the Port Authority of Trieste presented the calendar of upcoming EUSALP events. Within the framework of the Italian presidency of the EUSALP strategy, a technical seminar will be held in Trieste, followed by another political-level EUSALP meeting in October in Genoa.
